International exhibition of shipbuilding industry and shipping Posidonia 2018 was held in Athens (Greece) from 4 to 8 June.
The 49th exhibition once again brought together the leaders and top managers of the biggest shipping companies all over the world. More than 2,000 companies of 92 countries presented their exhibits. The total number of visitors exceeded 23,500.
«MediaCompass Ukraine» and the international maritime magazine «Shipping» became the official media partners of the forum.
Fist time Posidonia was held in 1969. Beginning from 1970 the event takes place every two years.
The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Merchant Marine of Greece, Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, Union of Greek Shipowners as well as a number of associations and unions of owners of passenger and coaster vessels.
The exhibitors of Posidonia 2018 presented the following focus areas: shipbuilding and ship-repair; research and design and construction; classification societies; port management; shipping services; financing and insurance of the industry; ship equipment production; construction of boats, yachts, high-speed and small boats; navigational charts and hydrography; radar and navigational systems; ship handling simulators and automation; industry associations and designated mass media.
Traditional participants of Posidonia are: China, Japan, South Korea, Denmark and the Netherlands. For the first time the exhibitors included representatives of the shipping industries of Brazil and Poland. National displays were also presented by Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia and other countries.
The schedule of Posidonia 2018 included 40 seminars and conferences – among them there was an international conference of marine cargo insurance (MCI) «Marine Cargo Insurance at the East-West-South0North Crossroads» held on June 8.
The MCI conference was organized by «MediaCompass Ukraine» and the Board of Maritime Lawyers of Ukraine. The International Maritime Magazine «Shipping» was the general media partner of the conference.
MCI got together the experts of marine cargo insurance, inspection and cargo shipping from more than 10 countries. High professionalism and long-term experience of speakers facilitated efficient work and heated discussions on the most topical aspects of marine insurance sector.
In particular, representatives of the law firm «Remedy» Kristina Sinova and Andrey Shaporin presented the analysis of the Russian marine insurance market and considered its features by supplying practical cases. A similar study of the Ukrainian market was made by Denis Rabomizo, President of the Board of Maritime Lawyers of Ukraine. Director of «Havrico Insurance» Christian Postelmaans presented an exhaustive report on insurance and shipping of grains as well as the role of insurance brokers in this process. Specific features of carriage of coal were described by Aleksandra Chachimichaloglu who represented a Greek office of «Gard» company.
Subjects of general averages and specificity of dispute resolution were touched upon at the conference as well. Special attention was paid to the forwarders’ liability as one of the cargo insurance aspects. The presentation devoted to this particular topic was given Alan Jervis, Manager of «Jervis Marine Insurance Experts Int.» (Great Britain).
Within the MCI frame the participants discussed the prospects of marine insurance and the changes required for a successful cargo insurance business. A comprehensive report on this subject was presented by Rocco Bozzelli, Managing director of «24Vision Shipping & Risk Solutions» (Monaco).
